The worst day...

I'm too embarrassed to show the initial outcome...

So the other day I took out my extensions as I was getting ready for my big summer transition. I'd decided that this summer I was going to go blonde and short (a long bob, not cut it all off). I was really excited when my friend invited me to go with her to use a voucher at a hair salon to get a Brazilian Blowdry as that is exactly what I was looking for and it meant I didn't have to pay a ridiculous amount to get it done. So on Thursday we rocked up to the salon, which seemed really nice, to be greeted by the hair dresser. She was super chatty and friendly and we we're really excited to be getting pampered. Within 10 mins of talking to her she looked at our heads and said hmmm I'm not sure if the treatment is going to work. Baring in mind that my friend and I have COMPLETELY different hair and the fact that my friend had already had the same treatment 6 months ago, I was beginning to worry about the woman's hairdressing credentials. In the end she said that she wouldn't go through with the process but instead she will do something else called "10 day straight" and it will look equally as nice but would only work for 10 washes. As we were pressed for time, we agreed to go along with this treatment and redeem the voucher at a later date.

So she started with me, washing and blow-drying my hair.... then she took out her scissors. I told her to get rid of my dead ends caused by some bleach that had been left on some of the tips from ombréing my extensions, BUT to keep the front long. I even showed her a picture of how I wanted it. She started cutting and it was looking ok, and then all of a sudden she grabbed the front part of my hair as if I had a fringe and before I could blink... SNIP! That very moment my heart broke, there are two things that upset me, bad hair cuts and bad eyebrow threading (hence why I do my own eyebrows now-a-days) and from that moment I had to hold back the tears. I asked the woman what she had done and she told me not to worry, once she straightened it it would look lovely. Well she got the straighteners out, did her thing and it looked worse! I looked like a 50 year old mother who works in a lawyers office. I told her I wasn't happy with the hair cut and in fact I was really upset and she just walked away and started doing my friends hair. As she started cutting into my friends gorgeous hair it became clear that she couldn't actually cut hair properly and my friend said to her "sorry that's not what I asked you to do" (rough Portuguese translation), that was when the crazy began. The woman (you'll see now why I haven't referred to her as lady) went absolutely ape s**t and started screaming at us... "I've been a hairdresser for 25 years I know what I'm doing, I'm the hairdresser not you, you can't tell me how to cut hair etc." My friend got up to walk away and then this woman grabbed her arm and said sit down and shut up and let me cut your hair or get out. That was when we started to get ready to leave. Her colleagues from the salon above then came down to see what all the commotion was about and the woman stormed out of the room into another where a client was having her nails done and screamed a racist and abusive remark at us. The story goes on to us calling the police and filing a complaint etc. but I won't go into details. I am not one to name and shame but I just want to make sure that this doesn't happen to anyone else (if the woman hasn't been fired already).

The salon is called MC Clinic on Rua Julio Dinis, Porto. Although the other ladies who work their seem to be really nice, it doesn't forgive what my friend and I had to go through. Racist comments, physical confrontation and disrespectful language shouldn't be tolerated by anyone, whether they are paying for a service or a normal person on the street, and I can't believe that this has happened.

We were victims of false advertisement as the salon was not able to fulfil their purpose. I left with a disgusting and embarrassing hair cut, my friends hair was half done and she now needs to pay and get somebody to fix it and they are the least of our worries. I love Portugal, it is an amazing country, but I would be lying if I was to say that this incident didn't affect my image of the country.

Sorry for the essay but I just wanted to get this off of my chest!

  2. To start with, you should put complaints to the voucher issuer (so that they don't work with that hairdresser anymore), to some consumer association in Portugal and everywhere on the internet where that hairdresser is listed.
I also worry a lot about my hair and getting a bad haircut, now just try to get a proper haircut you like and it will grow back!
